"Parts" Work in the Woods

A therapeutic 3 day weekend in nature working with the many different parts within you.

What is parts work?

"Parts" work is a form of self-growth where we work with the many different parts/voices within ourselves.  You've probably heard yourself or others say things like "part of me wants to go out but another part of me wants to stay home" and maybe even a third part/voice that says "what will people think if I don't go out".   It's such a natural thing that we don't even think about it.  Many of us have an inner critic, a wounded child, a wise self and our "soul" the essence of who we are.

There are many different theories/systems of working with "parts" (Gestalt, Internal Family systems, etc).  This weekend will incorporate the work of  Katie Asmus & Wilderness Therapy Institute's: Uncovering Genius . You'll be introduced to this innate way of healing and getting to know the parts of you while in the natural world.  As a therapist I've worked with clients on parts work and been trained in several different ways of working with "parts" including Internal Family Systems.  After participating in the "Uncovering Genius" wilderness training while learning and doing my own parts work collaborating with the natural world, I left feeling changed, seen and whole! I have now used this process with individual clients that have had great success.  I am very excited and look forward to seeing clients implement their own work while collaborating with the natural world.

Join us to find out how to discover and embrace all the parts that make up you while allowing the wildness of the outdoors to get in touch with the wildness of your inner self.

This retreat style weekend will include optional activities such as morning yoga, meditation and mindfulness while fly fishing. While in nature you'll automatically build your immune system & calm your nervous system. Benefits of 3 days in the woods.   Camp for three days & two nights on beautiful Joe Pool Lake at Cedar Hill State Park.  Enjoy a nightly campfire and then fall asleep to the sounds of nature. We have all of the camping equipment available but if you're not into camping or don't have the space to be away from home at night you can commute each day.

Benefits:

  1. A deeper understanding of self
  2. Befriending your inner critic or critics
  3. Express an experiential understanding of self and how to nourish self in everyday life by incorporating the natural world
  4. Identify aspects in their own system which contribute to stress and ways to return to being centered when stressful times arise
